The Africa Tobacco Control Regional Initiative (ATCRI) is a response to the challenge of well-focused, coordinated and well- resourced tobacco control programming in Africa. The Initiative being hosted by Environmental Rights Action/ Friends of the Earth Nigeria (ERA/FoEN) got take –off grant from the American Cancer Society (ACS) and Cancer Research UK.
ATCRI promotes the adoption, implementation and enforcement of effective in-country tobacco control policies, legislation and programmes across the African continent by providing the platform for information sharing, institutional support and capacity building among all tobacco-control stakeholders.
The African Tobacco Control Consortium is a coalition of public health organizations focused on preventing a tobacco epidemic in Africa. The Consortium is comprised of the Africa Tobacco Control Alliance (ATCA), Africa Tobacco Control Regional Initiative (ATCRI), the American Cancer Society, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids (CTFK), Framework Convention Alliance (FCA) and the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union).
The Consortium is now accepting applications for Tobacco Action Grants to support policy change efforts in sub-Saharan Africa. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) or academic institutions from sub-Saharan Africa are eligible to apply for grants. Applicants must be recognized legal entities capable of entering into contractual arrangements and assuming legal and financial obligations. Applicants cannot be (or have been) recipients of financial support from any tobacco product manufacturer or the parent, subsidiary or affiliate of a tobacco product manufacturer. Individuals are not eligible for grants.
